History

The Order of Mubarak the Great (Wisam Mubarak al-Kabir) was instituted by Emir Sabah bin Salim al-Sabah by Government Decree on July 16, 1974. The Order is conferred in 2 Classes as the highest knighthood honour of Kuwait as a sign of friendship to heads of state and Kuwait and foreign royalty. The Order is named in commemoration of Mubarak Al-Sabah, The Great Sheikh of Kuwait from 1896 to 1915, who achieved an independent recognition from the Ottoman Empire for Kuwait.

The II Class Grand Cordon Breast Star (Qashah al-Mubarak al-Kabir) is worn with a Sash Badge and conferred to members of the Kuwait royal family, as well as to members of foreign royalty.

The obverse features an Arabic inscription which translates to "State of Kuwait."

There are 2 versions of the Grand Cordon which differ by design, as the Order was amended following the liberation of Kuwait in 1992.
