History
The Order of Mubarak the Great (Wisam Mubarak al-Kabir) was instituted by Emir Sabah bin Salim al-Sabah by Government Decree on July 16, 1974. The Order is conferred in 2 Classes as the highest knighthood honour of Kuwait as a sign of friendship to heads of state and Kuwait and foreign royalty. The Order is named in commemoration of Mubarak Al-Sabah, The Great Sheikh of Kuwait from 1896 to 1915, who achieved an independent recognition from the Ottoman Empire for Kuwait.
The I Class Collar ( Qiladat al-Mubarak al-Kabir) is conferred solely upon heads of state.
The obverse features an inscription in Arabic which translates to "Al Sabah."
There are 2 versions of the Collar which differ by design, as the Order was amended following the liberation of Kuwait in 1992.
