The National Uprising (28th Amordad) Medal was established in 1953 in commemoration of the coup d'etat which reinstated Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi to his legitimate role of the Iranian Monarch.
A bronze Pahlavi crown emblem is authorized for wear on the ribbon.
The reverse features Persian inscription which translates to the date, "28 Mordad 1332 HS" (corresponding to 19 August 1953).
