History

The International Commission of Control and Supervision Medal was established by the International Commission of Control and Supervision (ICCS), or the Paris Accord, on January 27, 1973, to commemorate the 90-day peacekeeping tour of Vietnam following the end of hostilities. The ICCS was created to supervise troop withdrawal, the disarmament of military bases, the removal or permanent inactivation of mines, and the return of prisoners of war. The organization was originally composed of military and civilian personnel from the nations of Canada, Poland, Hungary, and Indonesia; but Iran later replaced Canada when Canada withdrew from the ICCS in July 1973. The Medal was awarded to personnel of the ICCS who participated in the monitoring of the end of hostilities and establishment of peace in Vietnam for a minimum of 90 days between January 28, 1973, and April 30, 1975.

There is an early version of the Medal which features an obverse depiction of a Canadian maple leaf emblem instead of the Iranian lion and sun emblem, but the early version is not featured here.
