The Order of Bahrain (Wisam al-Bahrein) was instituted by Amir 'Isa II bin Salman al-Khalifa in 1977. The Order is conferred in 5 Classes to both civil and military personnel in recognition of meritorious military, civil, or diplomatic service rendered to the State.

The I Class Grand Cordon is worn with a Sash and Breast Star and is bestowed at the sole discretion of the king upon heads of state and other qualifying personnel in recognition of outstanding achievements or service.
