Joseph Moore was born in Sussex in 1817. He apprenticed under the die sinker, Thomas Halliday, at Newhall Street, Birmingham. In 1844, he entered a partnership with John Allen and the company name changed to Allen and Moore. The company produced its first medal in 1846. In 1915, the company was taken over by Fattorini & Sons.
