History
The Long Service Award for Gendarmes was instituted by Grand Duke Friedrich August as the replacement for the Long Service Award that had been introduced in 1847. It was conferred upon gendarmes who rendered long and faithful service.
The cross was instituted following the Prussian annexation of Oldenburg and the new form was influenced by Prussian medals.
