Physical Description
A straight-armed cross pattée constructed of gold or bronze-gilt. The obverse centre bears a circular medallion with the crowned cipher of King Ernst August. The reverse centre bears a circular medallion with the number 50. The cross bears a crown suspension and is on a loop. On a red and navy blue striped ribbon.
History
The Ernst August Cross was instituted on May 15, 1844 by King Ernst August. The cross was conferred upon Officers of the Hanoverian Army for 50 years of loyal service. Time spent at war was counted double when calculating the length of one's service.
