Physical Description

A cross pattée constructed of bronze with lacquer or blackened bronze gilt. The obverse bears an ovular medallion in the centre with the inscription "DEUTSCHLAND" and the arms are inscribed with "AI FI FW 1814". The reverse centre bears the inscription "H XIII. RG". On a loop for suspension, with a black, white, orange and yellow striped ribbon.

History

The Honour Cross for Officers of the Line was established by the Governor General of Frankfurt, Prince Heinrich XIII of Reuss-Greiz, on October 22, 1814. The cross was conferred upon the Officers of the Frankfurt’s Government Generals’ heavy artillery troops.

On July 20, 1815, the statutes were changed and the cross was also conferred upon officials who served with the troops and Field-Grade Officers of the Landsturm.

The cross was minted by Samuel Tomschütz. On November 23, 1814, the first 50 crosses were ready to be awarded.
