Physical Description


A circular medal constructed of silver. The obverse bears a coat of arms topped with a crown with flagstaffs. The reverse bears the inscription "LOHN DER TAPFER=KEIT" (reward of bravery), encompassed by a wreath of laurel. On a loop for suspension, with a red ribbon.

History


The Military Merit Medal was founded by Christoph Franz von Buseck, the Prince Bishop of Bamberg, on January 7, 1797. The medal was conferred in recognition of meritorious military service.

The Gold Medal was awarded to Officers.

The Silver Medal was intended for Non-Commissioned Officers and soldiers of the Bamberg contingent.

This medal is extremely rare.
