Physical Description
A circular medal constructed of gold. The obverse bears the image of a brick cenotaph with the Bamberg coat of arms. The top of the cenotaph holds the cipher "CF" within a wreath. The sides of the monument are flanked with flagstaffs. The reverse bears the "LOHN DER TAPFER=KEIT" (reward of bravery) encompassed by a wreath of laurel with a ribbon at the bottom. On a loop for suspension on a red ribbon.
History
The Military Merit Medal was founded by Christoph Franz von Buseck, the Prince Bishop of Bamberg, on January 7, 1797. The medal was conferred in recognition of meritorious military service.
The Gold Medal was awarded to Officers.
The Silver Medal was intended for Non-Commissioned Officers and soldiers of the Bamberg contingent.
This medal is extremely rare.
