The Badge was instituted on January 26th, 1942, and was conferred upon individuals who obtained the necessary II Class Glider Pilot’s certificate and had successfully completed an endurance flight of five hours or more, or had flown at an altitude of at least 3,300 feet during the course of a single flight.
The Badge could be awarded to individuals who were not members of the N.S.F.K.
This Badge was an international award that corresponded to the silver badge of the Federation Aeronautique Internationale.
The reverse of each badge features the associated award number.
The Gold Badge with Diamonds was only awarded four times up until 1942.
