History

The Coburg Badge was established on October 12, 1932, and was the first badge recognized as a national award by the Nazi Party. Thirteen years prior, Adolf Hitler arrived in Coburg with 800 storm troopers and a 42 piece band to participate in a planned “German day.” At the time, the city was controlled by Communists, who attempted to break up the rally. Eventually, a bloody clash broke out between the two groups, and the Communist control over Coburg was broken.

The Badge was elevated to an official Party decoration on November 6, 1936.
