History
The SS Command Flags were instituted on August 17, 1933. They are in the same design as the SA command flags, but in black and white instead of red and white. They were available either as flags or as vehicle pennants.
Early examples use an SA/political eagle design, but in 1936 with the introduction of the new and unique SS eagle design the flags were updated. The eagle always faces to the viewer’s right.
A strengthening bar was worn along the upper edge of the command flags and pennants so that they were unable to collapse on days without wind.
The Standarte (regiment) command flag is square shaped and white with a thick black border, with a black and white eagle emblem with swastika in wreath above the regiment’s number in black Roman numerals.
The flag measures 50x50 cms, whereas the vehicle pennant measures 25x25 cms.
