History
In 1936, Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler and his staff decided to replace the earth-grey uniform of the SS-VT with a practical field-grey version.
The SS-VT M37 uniform was produced in two versions, a herringbone twill (HBT) version for training, and a wool version for field service and combat. Originally the trousers were manufactured out of neu-grau (new-grey) cloth, but as of 1939, they were produced in field-grey.
The trousers have straight, cuffless legs, with only a narrow hem; the fly of the trousers close with five buttons and the waistband features two pairs of buttons for suspenders; each hip has a flapless slit pocket and on the right side of the fly there is a small inset watch pocket; above this watch pocket there is a small metal hook for attaching the watch chain.
The waistband on the reverse of the trousers features an adjustment strap and a V-shaped slit in the centre; on each side of the slit, there are two buttons for suspenders; the left rear side features an inset pocket with a single button.
