History
The leather overcoat was not part of the standard uniform and was only available to Officers through private purchase. It was manufactured in the same design as the Allgemeine SS black overcoat.
Early examples of the coat were produced in black leather, while later versions were manufactured in a mid-grey colour to coordinate with the M38 Light Grey Uniform.
The collar of the coat was made from leather or black cloth and was piped with silver-coloured aluminium cord.
Personnel with the rank of SS-Oberführer and higher were authorised to wear leather overcoats with silver-grey lapels. Although the colour of the lapels is referred to as being silver-grey, in actuality, they were often a pale yellow-brown colour.
