History

The SS Officer’s Brocade Belt was introduced in 1937 for wear by Officers in the Leibstandarte SS 'Adolf Hitler'.

In 1938, Officers from all branches of the SS became eligible to wear the brocade belt with parade, dress, and walking-out dress attire. The obverse of the belt was identical in appearance for all elements of the organisation, while the reverse side varied.

Officers were responsible for purchasing their uniforms and accoutrements, including the brocade belt.

The obverse side features a large centre stripe of woven aluminium thread, which depicts alternating oak leaves and SS runes. On either side of this centre stripe, there are two black stripes, with a silver-coloured stripe between them. The reverse of the strap is grey-green velvet or gabardine cloth.

The keeper slide features a 12mm stripe of plain aluminium in the centre, and on each side there are two small black stripes, with a silver-coloured strip between them.

One end of the belt has a rectangular buckle catch, while the other has a leather buckle retaining tongue.
