History
The Gorget for members of the SS-Streifendienst was introduced in 1936. The SS-Streifendienst was responsible for patrolling the streets to assure that members of the Allgemeine SS acted in an appropriate manner and did not wear their official uniforms after midnight. In addition, the unit also assisted with crowd control and security during events such as the Reichsparteitag.
The silver-coloured gorget features a gilt finished banner with the inscription“Streifendienst”. Above the scroll is a round disc with silver-coloured SS runes. The reverse is covered with dark blue or black cloth and features a small silver piece of metal with the SS emblem, RZM logo, and maker’s number.
The gorget may come with two types of chain, a chain with close-formed links and a standard nickel-plated chain, with alternating open links and solid links. The ends of the chain secure to chain hangers on the reverse of the gorget.
