History
The SS Ski Cap was introduced for and only worn during winter sports activities. It was first mentioned in late 1934, but may have only been worn starting in 1935 or even 1936.
It is black and made of cloth, including the visor. The design is similar to the German Army mountain cap and M43 cap. The top of the cap is higher in the front than in the back. The cap has two flaps which were usually worn closed at the front with the help of two buttons.
A death's head insignia was worn above the closed flaps. Early examples were in metal, but they were later replaced by a cloth version. Beginning in 1936, an SS eagle emblem insignia was worn on the left side of the cap. From 1937 onward, a version on a triangular cloth backing was used.
