    History

The pennants and flags of the HJ were used to represent the organisation at parades and events, or to represent a specific unit or Leader of the HJ.

Small pennants were commonly used for events and as decorations. About these individual versions there is limited information.

Prior to 1933, there were lots of different flag designs, as there were no regulations for standardisation yet. The flags were often home ...  made and rather crude in appearance.

The first flag of the HJ was that of its predecessor organisation, the Jungsturm Adolf Hitler. It was first used on January 28, 1923.

The pennant shows a blue anchor with a life ring and swastika on a white field. This was to show that the Jungsturm Adolf Hitler was anchored in the NSDAP, but carried no naval connotations. The life ring had three sections, reading “National”, “Sozialistische”, and “D.A.P.”.

The flag was seized by the police shortly after it was first displayed. In 1933, after Hitler had come to power, it was returned. From then on it was paraded as a piece of honour on special occasions. Today’s whereabouts of the flag are unknown.
