History

The Women's Royal Voluntary Service Long Service Medal was instituted by Queen Elizabeth II on March 23, 1961. The Silver Medal is awarded to female and male members of the Royal Voluntary (formerly the Women's Royal Voluntary Service until 2013) in recognition of 40 duty completions and 15 years of service. The Medal was initially titled the "Women's Voluntary Service Long Service Medal" but in 1966 Queen Elizabeth II granted the organization the prefix "Royal" and the title of the Medal was changed to "Women's Royal Voluntary Service Long Service Medal."

Clasps may be awarded to denote an additional 10 years of service.
