History

The South Africa Prisons Department Faithful Service Medal was established in 1959 to replace the South Africa Prison Service Faithful Service Medal. The Silver Medal was awarded to prison officers for 18 years of exemplary service. The Medal was superseded by the Prisons Department Faithful Service Medal of the Republic of South Africa in 1965.

It is uncertain if the Medal is awarded with clasps.
