History

The Indian Volunteer Forces Officer's Decoration was instituted on May 24, 1894, as an extension to the Volunteer Officer's Decoration. The Decoration was awarded to Indian Volunteer Forces in recognition of 18 years of commissioned service, with service spent in the ranks counting as half and service provided during wartime counting as double. The award was superseded by the Efficiency Decoration in 1930. It is estimated that 1 171 Decorations were awarded.

The Decoration features a reverse inscription of the recipient's name. A variety of different naming styles were used.

There are 2 versions of the Decoration which vary by the cypher of the ruling monarch. There may be additional versions of the Decoration.
