History
The Indian Army Meritorious Service Medal (1888) was established in 1888 and was awarded to Indian Warrant Officers and senior Non-commissioned Officers in recognition of 18 years or more of distinctively meritorious service. Initially, the Silver Medal was awarded with an annuity and only 1 award was issued per regiment or after the death of previous recipients. Later, the award was made without an annuity. The Medal became obsolete in 1947.
There are multiple versions of the Medal which differ in obverse effigy of the ruling monarch at the time of issue.
