History

The Ambulance Service (Emergency Duties) Long Service and Good Conduct Medal was instituted by Queen Elizabeth II on July 5, 1996. The Silver Medal is awarded to full-time and part-time members of ambulance services in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, and the Channel Islands for employment on emergency duties. The Medal is awarded to paramedics and technicians for 20 years of service, and to ambulance officers and other management grades for 7 out of 20 years of service spent on emergency duties. Service in ambulance services run by local authorities prior to 1974 was also eligible for the award.

There are 2 versions of the Medal which vary by the reverse design. The first version features the emblem of the Ambulance Services of the United Kingdom while the second features the emblem of the Ambulance Services of Scotland.
