The Uganda Star was sanctioned by Queen Victoria in 1897 and was awarded to African civilians and soldiers who aided the British in suppressing the Mutiny of Sudanese troops in Uganda. The Silver Star was awarded to African tribal leaders in recognition of loyalty. Some members of the Sudanese troops who fought against the Uganda Rifles also received the Silver Star.
