The Kuwait Liberation Medal was instituted by the government of Kuwait in 1991, to reward allied forces for service in the liberation of Kuwait. The Medal is awarded in 5 grades according to recipient's rank. The "Excellent Class" is awarded to Senior Allied Commanders, the "I Class" is awarded to brigadiers and major-generals, the "II Class" is awarded to Officers of field rank, the "III Class" is awarded to junior Officers, and the "IV Class" is awarded to other ranks. British recipients are not entitled to wear the medal.
The Excellent Class Medal is worn around the neck by a ribbon.
The obverse features the name of the State in Arabic and an Arabic inscription that translates to "1991 Liberation Medal."
