This Medal is conferred upon military personnel and foreigners in recognition of completing mandatory military service, and to Officers who have the equivalent length of education and service.
This Medal can only be conferred upon the same recipient once.
Silvered star shape clasps may be added to the recipients ribbon for additional distinction under the following circumstances: one star for every four years of service to active personnel, a single star to men and Officers for a six month service period for UN service, Home Guard personnel for 5, 10, and 15 years of service (additional star for every time duration), for occupational and, contractual officers for 4, 8, and 12 years of service (additional star for every time duration).
A maximum of three stars may be conferred upon an individual.
Individuals who receive the Medal and then switch military branches are still eligible to receive additional star clasps.
Prior to 2011, all star claps were gold in colour, following 2011, all star clasps were silver in colour.
There are 4 versions of this medal. The obverse features the crest of the service branch and the reverse features the name of the branch. Each version is awarded with a different ribbon.
