History

Established by King Oscar II, in commemoration of his wedding on June 6, 1882, this Medal was conferred in recognition of Norwegian and foreign meritorious business practices and profits in private and public establishments, as well as foreign nationals.

This medal may also be known as a "Medal Reward for Running and Profitable Business".

In 1888, the obverse design of this medal was changed. At it's initial institution, the obverse design consisted of King Oscar II's royal monogram, with an inscription reading "BRODFOLKENES VEL", and following the amendment, the obverse design consisted of the image of the royal portrait of King Oscar II, and the inscription "OSCAR II NORGES OG SVERIGES KONGE BRODERFOLKENES VEL."

The reverse of this medal is engraved with the recipients name.
