History

This Order was conferred in recognition of merit within a range of fields.

The Order underwent changes to its organization and design in 1963 and 1976.

In 1963 the IV Class and V Class awards were abolished, and in 1976 the III Class with laurel wreath and the IV Class were added to the Order. The entire Order was abolished in 1991.

This Order was a continuation of the Order conferred during the Hungarian People's Republic.
