History
The Order was founded to recognize extraordinary merit in the promotion, spread, and defence of socialism. The service could be performed within many spheres of Hungary society, including cultural, economic, and political.
Each Order grade is identical in size, form, and compositions, but they differ in the decoration added to the award's ribbon.
The I Class ribbon is decorated with a gold coloured wreath.
The II Class ribbon is decorated with gold coloured crossed swords.
The III Class ribbon does not have any decorations on the ribbon.
The Order was discontinued in 1991.
See the Order of the Star of the Hungarian Republic, HUN238, in Hungary (1989-) for more information.
