History
The Assault Gun uniform was introduced in 1942 and was issued to the assault gun and anti-tank personnel of armoured SS units. Prior to this date, SS anti-tank troops (Panzerjäger) wore the Black Panzer 'Wrapper' Tunic.
The cut of the Assault-Gun Tunic is identical to the Black Panzer 'Wrapper' Tunic; the front opening of the tunic is cut vertically down and is fastened closed with hidden buttons, the points of the collar are rounded, and the back of the tunic was manufactured with a single panel of fabric. The only difference was that the assault gun tunic was produced from field-grey wool.
Anti-tank units were also issued field-grey herringbone twill uniforms for wear during the hot summer months and during field training.
