History
The 13. Waffen-Gebirgs-Division der SS ‘Handschar’ was a Bosnian Muslim unit raised in 1943 from Croatian volunteers and a cadre from the 7th Division. It was originally called the SS Division ‘Bosnien-Herzegowina’ but shortly after its foundation it was renamed ‘Handschar.’
Foreign SS divisions were not allowed to wear collar tabs with SS runes. As such, members of the division were issued a right collar tab that depicted a scimitar wielding arm and a swastika.
