Physical Description

A circular medal, constructed of bronze gilt. The medal is surrounded by a laurel wreath that is cross-tied by a ribbon at the top and bottom. The obverse features the crowned monogram ‘F’, surrounded by the inscription ‘FÜR DEUTSCHE TREUE 1912’ (‘for German loyalty 1912’) within two lines. The reverse features the crowned and intertwined monogram ‘GV’ and the date ‘1870-71’ below. On a loop for suspension, on a yellow ribbon with an inner red and outer black side stripe on each side.

History

The Soldiers’ Association Decoration was instituted on January 20, 1912 by Prince Friedrich of Waldeck and Pyrmont. It was established to recognise the work of the Veterans’ Association, which bolstered patriotism and benefited the public welfare of the entire German Empire. The decoration was conferred upon individuals who rendered exceptional service within the Soldiers’ Association.

Only citizens of Waldeck were eligible to receive the medal. 100 medals were manufactured, but only 54 were awarded. The location of the unawarded medals is unknown.
