Physical Description
A smooth circular medal with a raised edge, constructed of bronze. The obverse features the left-facing portraits of Grand Duke Carl Alexander and Grand Duchess Sophie. At the bottom are the signatures ‘W. UHLMANN SC.’ and ‘G. LOOS DIR.’. The reverse features the crowned intertwined monogram ‘CAS’ with a myrtle branch on each side and a ribbon at the bottom that features the dates ‘1842 8 OCTOBER 1892’. Below the ribbon is the signature ‘LOOS’. On a loop for suspension, on a ribbon with a golden centre, followed on each side by a green stripe, a narrow yellow stripe, and a black stripe.
History
The Golden Wedding Jubilee Medal was instituted by Grand Duke Carl Alexander to commemorate his golden wedding anniversary to his wife Sophie.
The medal was awarded to the guests who celebrated the anniversary in Weimar.
The Bronze Medal was conferred upon less important and low ranking guests, such as officers and non-commissioned officers.
