History
The Long Service Cross was originally instituted by Grand Duke Paul Friedrich on 30 April, 1841, and was conferred upon military personnel to reward long and faithful service.
The Type II crosses were renewed by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II on November 11, 1868, and a different number of service years was required to receive an award.
The I Class Cross for 21 Years was conferred upon NCOs (non-commissioned officers) and EMs (Enlisted Men).
