Physical Description
A straight-armed cross pattée constructed of gold. The obverse bears a central circular medallion with the coat of arms of Hamburg. The arms of the cross are pebbled with a smooth border. The reverse centre on the Type I Cross bears a circular medallion with the Roman numeral "XXV". The reverse on the Type II cross is plain. On a loop for suspension, on a red ribbon with white stripes.
History
The Long Service Cross was established by the Senate of Hamburg on June 6, 1839. The cross was conferred upon Officers who had rendered 25 years of active military service.
The Long Service Cross was awarded for 25 Years in Gold and 20 Years in Silver. The Type I Long Service Cross for 25 Years in Gold was awarded from 1839 to 1858. The Type II Long Service Cross for 25 Years in Gold was awarded from 1858 to 1867.
