Physical Description


A cross urdy constructed of bronze. The obverse centre bears a circular medallion with the Bavarian flag lozenges encompassed by a wreath of laurel. The obverse arms bear the inscription "MAX II KÖNIG VON BAYERN". The reverse centre bears a circular medallion with the crowned Bavarian lion holding a sword, encompassed by a wreath of laurel. The reverse arms bear the inscription "DEN VETERANEN DES BAYER. HEERES" (to the veterans of the Bavarian army). On a loop for suspension with a blue ribbon with red stripes.

History


The Veterans' Campaign Cross was established by King Maximilian II on June 30, 1848. The cross was conferred upon military personnel who served with the Bavarian Army in the campaigns from 1790 to 1812.
