Physical Description
A straight armed cross pattée constructed of bronze or bronze gilt. The obverse centre bears a circular medallion with the left-facing portrait of Prince Regent Luitpold, circumscribed by name and title “LVITPOLD PRINZ- REGENT VON BAYERN”. The reverse centre bears the inscription “FÜR EHREN-VOLLE VIERZIG DIENSTES JAHRE (for an honourable fourty years of service), the 12 o’clock arm bears a crown, the 9 o’clock arm bears “12”, the 3 o’clock amr bears “MÄRZ” (March), the 6 o’clock arm bears “1911”. On a loop for suspension.
History
The Luitpold Cross for 40 Years in State Service was established by Prince Regent Luitpold on March 12, 1911, his 90th birthday. The cross was conferred upon citizens who had faithfully served the state, church, court, or community for 40 years.
Individuals could apply for the Luitpold Cross for 40 Years in State Service. It was awarded with a certificate, and recipient names were published in the official gazette.
