History

The Volunteer Medal (1952) was awarded to Belgian citizens and foreigners who voluntarily served in the Belgian Armed Forces. It was originally awarded for service in United Nations missions (the Korean War), but it was later extended to volunteer veterans of the First and Second World Wars. It was also awarded posthumously.

A “COREE-KOREA” clasp was awarded for service in the Korean War, a bronze "1914-1918" clasp was awarded for service in the First World War, and a bronze "1940-1945" clasp was awarded for service in the Second World War.

The reverse inscription translates to "Volunteer."
