History

The Special Medal for Members of the Royal Household and Members of the Households of the Royal Family was first established by Royal Decree on November 13, 1919. Subsequent monarchs established their own award by Royal Decree, but for the sake of clarity and continuity, they are treated here as a single decoration.

This Medal was awarded in recognition of meritorious services rendered by the staff of the royal households to the King or other members of the Belgian Royal Family. It is classified into types according to the ruling monarch depicted on the obverse.
