History
The Medal for Members of the Royal Household and Members of the Households of the Royal Family was first established by Royal Decree on July 21, 1889. Each successive monarch established their own award by Royal Decree, but for the sake of clarity and continuity, they are treated here as a single decoration.
The Medal is awarded to members of royal households in recognition long and faithful service to the Belgian Royal Family. It is classified into types according to the ruling monarch depicted on the obverse.
The Type II Bronze Medal was not awarded for the completion of a prescribed service term. Instead, it was awarded to members of royal households on special occasions. It was awarded with a bronze monogram clasp. The obverse inscription translates to "Albert, King of the Belgians."
