History
The Escapee's Cross was established by the Belgian government in exile in London on February 25, 1944. It was awarded to those who had escaped from Germany (or other occupied territories) and subsequently participated in the resistance serving the Allied cause. It was also awarded to those who were imprisoned by the enemy for at least 3 months due to their allegiance to Belgium and to escaped prisoners of war who demonstrated unwavering patriotism. It was later extended to those who escaped to Great Britain during the Dunkirk evacuations and to those who had fled France or French North Africa prior to November 1, 1940.
