Established in commemoration of the 50th wedding anniversary of King Oscar II and Queen Sophia, this Medal was conferred to members of the Swedish Royal Family, to members of the Royal Household, and to foreign royal and princely guests who attended celebrations in the capital.

According to official documents, a total of 460 Medals were produced.
