History

This medal was awarded to the volunteer partisans who had participated in the landing at Marsala with Giuseppe Garibaldi.

The ribbon may feature a device with three legs extending from the head of Medusa.

It was originally considered an unofficial medal of Palermo, and later the medal was made an official decoration of the Kingdom of Italy.

The Silver Medal was issued twice.

The medals issued first were minted in Palermo, while the medals issued second were minted in Rome.
