History

This Medal was awarded to individuals and organizations for rendering exceptional services within Italian education, and the spread of education within the Nation.

The Medal has two main versions. The medals issued first have the right facing portrait of Victor Emmanuel III on the obverse, and they may be stamped with engraver and manufacturer marks, including "ROMAGNOLI," "39GE," and "38MI."

The medals issued second have the left facing portrait of Victor Emmanuel III on the obverse, and they may be stamped with engraver and manufacturer marks, such as "E.CRIPPA S.J.," and "E.C. S.J.," or have no marks at all.
