History
The Medal was founded by the Department of the National Fascist Party to commemorate the Benito Mussolini's ascension to power, which culminated in the Fascist March on Rome from October 27-December 31, 1923. Initially, this Medal was reserved for members of the MVSN (Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale), also known as the Blackshirts, who had participated in the march. In 1928 it was expanded to include all Italian military personnel who had joined in the march.
These medals may be stamped with the engraver/designer and manufacturer marks, including "F.M.LORIOLI E CASTELLI MILANO E.B.MOD." and "F.M.LORIOLI E E.B.MOD.," or have no marks at all. The medal was designed by Eugenio Baroni.
The reverse medallion may be engraved with the recipient details.
The Gold Medal was conferred upon five recipients, including Michele Bianchi, Italo Balbo, Emilio De Bono, Cesare Maria De Vecchi, and Benito Mussolini.
