History

The Medal is conferred in recognition of acts of bravery at sea, demonstrated expertise in seamanship, and voluntary exposure of the recipient’s life to danger.

The reverse medallion features the name of the recipient and the date and place of the event for which they are being awarded.

The Gold Medal is awarded when the act is meritorious and commendable to the highest degree.
