History
The Medal is associated with the Gold Medal for Military Valour, which was originally founded by Victor Amadeus III in 1793.
The modern design of the Medal was established by the Italian Republic in 1949, wherein the Royal emblem on the obverse was replaced with the emblem of the Italian Republic.
This Medal is conferred upon military personnel and civilians, in both peace and wartime, for an act of bravery that could have been ignored without dereliction of duty and honour, and that placed the recipient in a situation of serious personal risk. It may also be awarded posthumously.
The reverse of the Bronze Medal may be engraved with the name, date, and region of the recipient.
