History

This Medal is associated with the Naval Medal of Honour for Long Service, ITA266, which was instituted in 1904 during the Kingdom of Italy.

The modern Medal is awarded to members of the Italian Army, Navy, Financial Corps, and Carabinieri in recognition of long service in a leadership role on sea vessels.

The Gold Medal is conferred in recognition of 25 years of military service at sea, and the ribbon is decorated with a gold coloured anchor.
